Green White Red –> Italy wins World Cup Soccer 2006

Italy celebrates and jubilates as the World Cup Soccer come to an end.

Italy beat France 5-3 on penalties in the World Cup final after the teams finished level at 1-1 after extra time in a dramatic encounter in which French playmaker Zinedine Zidane was sent off.David Trezeguet hit the bar with his spot kick and the decisive penalty in the shootout was scored by Fabio Grosso.

Well, you can read more about it in your local news, the TV, and everywhere else. In Toronto, little Italy is crowded with tens of thousands of Italians and Italian soccer supporters. I can just imagine all the excitement over there.

I watched the end of the game and it was very interestinfg to see all the reactions after the winning goal was made. Boy, was it ever a contrast of emotions. Tears were shed, either by elation of winning or the down effect of losing. Their faces showed their feelings.

Joys – jumping up and down (for more than 10 or more minutes), waving hands, singing, kissing, hugging, cutting the hair (probably a bet), carrying over the shoulders, flag waving, more kissing – yes, kissing the gold globe trophy above , more big hugs. Oh what a sight. To be a winner indeed.

Sadness – Tears, shaking heads, eyes down, chin down, pouty faces, disgust, dismay…simply put, the agony of defeat.

I suppose, this is always the sight in the end. Where there is a winner , a loser there must be.

Italy took it home today. My prediction was wrong. Now , let’s wait for the ga-ga to be over.
