More Good Things

My previous post was actually a prelude to this one.

I did find out last week that I was successful from my last interview. It was a bit hush-hush due to some HR processes that needed to be finalized. So this week I was able to let my peers know.

I have been in my current job for over 4 years and in my current level since 2000. I’ve had 2 other jobs in between and a year off (mat leave). So this change is much needed not only for the pocket but most especially for my brains. I needed to get a new skill. A more marketable one just in case the compnay decides to do another set of lay-offs. I just hope I get to learn enough before they do such a thing.

I’ve mentioned before that I have the luxury of having a 3-day work week and every other week a 4- day. Its a 12 hr day so it compensates for my usual long weekends. Well, that will change now. I am jumping into the 9-5 class of workers. In my case, hours might be a bit flexible but may be longer than 8 hours depending on the work load.

Like with any change comes a lot of stress and challenges. I have readied myself for that. Psyche myself if you will , to be ready for long hours, 5 days of work, 5 days of driving back and forth, 2 days off only and less time with my husband (hey maybe that’s a good thing). I am planning a lot of things with this new schedule. Maybe I can do more things being able to get home earlier than before. Maybe a more routine schedule , say regular gym work-out times, time for extra activities for my daughter, extra time to enjoy long summer days.

Who knows? I’ll try. I look forward to the change.

  11. Congrats on your new job, Leah. It’s good to have other marketable skills that would afford you to switch jobs. Working in the same environ can sometimes bore the heck out of you. I worked for a clothing company for close to 17 years before I finally called it quits and went freelance. At least now I have a more flexible schedule.

  16. Hi Leah!
I like your attitude. Not many would relish the idea of getting new skills and be proactive, instead of reactive. Plus changes make their lives go awry. But here you are saying that you look forward to change.
    Way to go! πŸ™‚

hi annamanila, That’s true..the only thing that does not change in life is the word itself, “change”..all rest is constantly changing. Thanks a lot.

  28. That’s wonderful news Leah. Naku, sisiw pala sa’yo yung mga interview questions. Nahirapan nga ako sumagot e. πŸ™‚ I’m sure you’ll love your new routine. πŸ™‚

  29. Not really.
One good thing when working in a mall is that when you don’t want the food nang nagdadala sa office, you would mentally “stroll” around the mall for any fastfood and ask a utility man to buy something for you. =)
